How far ahead should a bridal commission start?
Earlier than most people expect. Bridal work is measured in fittings, not in days, and the earlier it starts the more the design can still change while there is time to change it. If your date is close, say so in the first message and she will tell you honestly what is possible.
Can you work from a photograph?
Yes. A commission usually starts from a photograph or two, and then changes once she has seen you in a first fitting, which is the point of having fittings.
Do you dress the rest of the family?
Yes. Mother of the bride, sisters and trousseau pieces are part of the same commission and are easier to keep coherent when one person is designing all of them.
What does something cost?
It depends on the fabric, the amount of work and the number of fittings, so there is no price list and anyone who gives you one before seeing the brief is guessing. Say what you have in mind to spend in your first message. Abhilashaa will tell you honestly what is possible within it, and what is not, before anything starts.
